We’re Looking For a Few Good Repair Shops
Veritas Instrument Rental Incorporated (VIR) has been offering quality rent-to-own programs to parents, educators and music retailers for over 30 years. Now working with nearly 400 Affiliates in 44 States, VIR has become one of the industry's largest and fastest growing providers of school band & orchestra instruments. However, many of our Affiliates are neither equipped nor capable of handling the basic repairs associated with a typical rent-to-own program. Thus, we are looking to partner with repair professionals in those areas where our affiliated retailers are not currently servicing their rental accounts.
Why Outsourcing?
VIR is a nationally-operated business located in Clearwater, Florida. As such, keeping instrument repairs local is a top priority. Turnaround time is drastically shortened, the customer experience is improved, and service dollars are kept in the community. It just makes sense.
Here’s an example to put things into perspective. Let’s say one of our rental customers near Seattle, Washington brings a clarinet into the local VIR Affiliate because two pads fell out. If the VIR Affiliate is not capable of replacing two pads, adjustting & regulating, it would have to be boxed up, shipped to our Service Center in Florida, go through processing, time on the bench, boxed again, and shipped back to the store. UPS Ground transit time, alone, would be nearly 10 business days. That’s why we outsource!
What Repairs Are Typical?
Put simply, basic repairs. Pads, corks, adjustments, stuck valves, sound posts, and such. Any major work will be referred to our shop, as we will need to determine whether the customer was neglegent or covered under our loss/damage waiver program. Our Service Partners are neither dealing with major jobs such as crushed bells or refinishing nor working with large brass, marching percussion, or professional models. We’re talking about student clarinets, flutes, trumpets, trombones, saxophones, snare drums, bell kits, violins, violas and the occasional oboe, cello, or maybe a soprano sax.
In addition to repairs, we also offer the opportunity for our Service Partners to process or “recycle” rental-returns back to rent-ready condition for our Affiliates. As mentioned above, this saves time, money, and hassle that would otherwise be associated with boxing & shipping returns back to VIR for processing. With our Recycling Program, we offer a flat fee for each instrument, regardless of what needs to be done in order to get it ready for the next renter. The best part, this program is not an “all or nothing” deal. Pick the instruments you want to recycle and have our Affiliate send the others back to us (typically those needing more work than what our flat fee is worth).
